Self Portrait – Wire Sculpting (FAPS)

Self-portraiture is a fascinating way for children to explore their own identity and creativity. In this lesson plan, our little artists aged 8 to 10 years old will learn to observe and replicate facial features in a contour drawing, before transforming their drawing into a 3D wire sculpture while creating their own self-portrait. This hands-on activity will not only develop their artistic skills but also encourage self-expression and reflection, encouraging our little artists to look closely at themselves and express their identity in a tangible form.

Artist Inspired: Barbara Kobylinska (CAS)

Barbara Kobylinski is a polish artist that has been creating large (4ft – 6ft) colourful sculptures that mirror the natural world with an abstract vibrant twist for the last 25 years. One of the hallmark features of Barbara Kobylinska's art is her fascination with the intersection of nature and fantasy especially through her creation of ceramic birds. Through her creations, she invites viewers into enchanted worlds where reality and imagination coexist. Inspired by her, our little artists are going to be creating Papier Mache Bird Sculptures this project!
